Sikander Sattar – Chairman

Sikander Sattar, a leading and dynamic businessman, was born in Malawi and arrived in the UK in 1976. He moved to Leicester in 1977 from London who then started a wholesale family business.

Today the company, Shenu Fashions, is highly successful and has been established for over 35 years. It is the largest importer and wholesaler of baby wear in the midlands. Sikander serves also as a Director of Baby Planet.

Sikander serves on many charitable boards and is known for his generosity and goodwill. He has travelled widely and been part of many compassionate causes. He is currently the Vice Chairman of Memon Association and also serves as a Trustee of Masjid E Abubakar.

Overall Sikander is a very motivated and active member of MBCOL and is seen as a valuable asset to the Board.

Luman Ali – Treasurer

Luman came to the UK in 1988 from Bangladesh and settled in Leicester in 1992; completing his education at local schools. After completing his Masters in 2007, Luman is currently conducting a PhD in History at The University of Nottingham, focusing on the British diplomatic experience in Iran from 1978-1982.

Luman has for several years now worked as a volunteer for the FMO in the role of assistant PR Officer, making contributions where possible in the areas of public relations and inter-faith work. In his capacity as assistant PR Officer, Luman has had significant experience in relation to counter-extremism initiatives, sitting on Leicestershire Constabulary’s Independent Advisory Group (IAG) as well as writing articles which have been published in the Leicester Mercury.

Luman brings to MBCOL the expertise he has acquired in the area of community and voluntary based PR work which includes the experience of having completed several funding applications for various projects including helping MBCOL secure funding for the training of other faiths and non-faiths on bereavement related issues.

Mohamed Jamil – Trustee

Mohammed Jamil attended school in royal county of Berkshire at age of 9 years and lived with his family in Slough. He moved to Sheffield in 1975 due to parents obtaining new employment attended College and apprenticeship with Mars LTD in engineering and then worked for British Steel. he then changed career to Youth and Community Work and attended full time course at Leicester De Montford University. In 1990 he was employed by Warwickshire County Council. The Organisation promoted Jamil three times, Area Youth Officer, Locality Coordinator and then Area Youth and Community Officer.

He studied a part time degree course at De montford University in Public Administration and Management and whilst holding full time post and bringing up a young family.

He also attended range of in-service courses, too many to mention. He have been teaching part-time Youth and Community Course through his employment and recently qualified as Adult Education Tutor.

In 2014 he worked as a self employed director/manager running his own business selling new and second hand goods similar to cash converters but on a smaller scale.

Jamil has been involved with the local community in Leicester. working most of his career with different communities and is very helpful in dealing with local issues and is much involved currently. He is valued member of the community. He also holds position of General Secretary at Jamia Masjid E Bilal where he has done voluntary work for many years.

Jamil will bring range of work and life skills to faith and non faith organisations and has a “can do” attitude. His efforts and expertise will have great benefit to community and voluntary organisations via MBCOL
